We always enjoy filming a wedding at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame and Morris Park Country Club. We met with Bridget and Eric about a year before the wedding to shoot a Save The Date video for them. The campus of Notre Dame is full of history and beautiful architecture. The day of the wedding, we also produced a Same Day Edit for them. A Same Day Edit is where we will shoot and edit throughout the day and then produce a highlight of the day, which is shown on the big screen at the reception for the couple and guests to enjoy.

We enjoyed working with Bridget and Eric and they made it such a fun and memorable experience for us.

Molly – {Our First Year} – Heirloom

This is yet another Heirloom shoot that we did for this wonderful family. The first year is such a milestone, not only the child but for the parents as well. For many parents, this is a period of adjustment and it does change the dynamics of the Husband Wife relationship. It was quite evident that this family has all of their priorities in place. There is something about having a child that can bring a couple even closer together. It is always an experience filming these Heirloom sessions because they all seem to take on a personality of their own, which is exactly what we like. We love to learn about people, their backgrounds and a little bit of there own story. Molly is such a cute little girl and we loved observing the dynamics of this family that day.

Our Heirloom sessions are shot exclusively with Carpenter Photography and Design. We would like to hear what you think about this Heirloom shoot.

A Shoot in St. Lucia

I spent 3 days last week in the West Indies on the island of St. Lucia for a shoot. This was a very last minute shoot and was on the plane within 24 hrs of accepting the job. It was rush getting a few things packed and my gear organized and strategically packed. I traveled alone on this trip but I don’t mind this. I do enjoy traveling with my wife and family but there is something about traveling alone that causes you to focus a bit more. I find that I meet more people this way and I love talking to people to get their story.

My connecting flight out of Atlanta I sat in the middle seat. On my right was a man named John and to my left a woman named Karen. John and I talked quite a bit. He is a biology professor at Saint Mary’s College and he was on his way to St. Lucia for a job interview at a university on the island. John is originally from Trinidad and his wife and 2 children are still there. I learned more about his areas of expertise. He is currently working on research involving antibiotics to try and resolve why they sometimes cause hearing loss. Instead of lab rats, they use Zebra fish to run tests. One of the most widely researched fish in the world with an immense amount of data about this special fish. John was an interesting person. Karen was on her way to St. Lucia to go on a barefoot cruise. She was an emergency room nurse and actually was a consultant for the TV show 24.

As I sat quietly, John asked me where I was staying. I told him I had no idea. He gave me a puzzled look. I said “really, I don’t know, they never told me”. He asked if I was going to be on the north or south end of the island. I just shook my head, shrugged my shoulders and told him that I really didn’t know but I would meet up with my contact at the airport. I was ok with this but John in his accent said, “no way would i ever do that, it would make me too nervous”. I told John that I just look at these trips as adventures and just go with the flow.

The island was just breathtaking to see and I stayed in a beautiful villa. The water is turquoise blue as is typical for the caribbean. I always find locations like this very peaceful. There were pocket of St. Lucia that reminded me of things I saw in Haiti. I always come away from places like this realizing how blessed we are in America. The hospitality incredible and I felt very welcome. There is so much to do in St. Lucia but really didn’t have the time to do them. I did get a hike in to a fort from the late 1700′s. I tried some local cuisine and loved everything i tried. I even tried coconut juice from a street vendor who used his machete to cut the coconut open. It was kind of a bland taste.

I met some very fun people. Asha, Tyrone, Bridgette and Agnes. They are all from St. Lucia with the exception of Tyrone, who I discovered grew up in Gary, IN. I really enjoyed the short amount of time I spent working with them.

This is an incredible place for a destination wedding. There are so many places to choose for a destination wedding here.

My first full day of shooting, I was up before the sun at 4:30am. I did not crawl into bed until 1:30am the next day. My last day in St. Lucia, I went to a local beach for a morning swim with Bridgette and Agnes. The caribbean water was the perfect temperature at 8:00am. We talked about the history of the island. I remember floating on my back looking up at the sky. The water covered my ears so I couldn’t hear. It was so peaceful and relaxing.

I look forward to returning some day but would like to take Jen with me on the next trip.

This was a beautiful intimate wedding we filmed at the Conrad, downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. We met Ashley and Toby and they are such a great couple. Toby is so energetic and we loved that about him. Ashley looked so beautiful on her wedding day. Love the bird cage veil and her dress was amazing. That morning we stopped by Red’s Classic Barbershop to get some shots of Toby and his brother getting a classic shave. This was one of the coolest barbershops we have been in. It was great working with photographer Angela Talley.

This film represents a lot of why we are passionate about what we do. Shawn and Sarah have been together, dating back years. Each wedding we film, we understand that the framework of a wedding day is mostly the same. But within that framework, we look for nuances and personalities and stories that help shape the identity of the couple, the family and their friends. What we see and hear on the wedding day is only a very small fraction of the couple’s lives but although it’s a snippet of time, it is one of the most important times of their lives.

As we documented some of Sarah getting ready, we talked very casually about their relationship and learned about a letter that Shawn had wrote many years ago, long before the thought of marriage. I asked Sarah to get the letter and had her read a little of what that letter said. She had decided she was going to read this letter that Shawn wrote during her speech at the reception. Loved the heartfelt speech Sarah’s Dad gave. We really enjoyed spending this time with Shawn and Sarah and the wedding was beautiful.

Wow…what a fun couple this was. We really enjoyed working with Dan and Dani. The wedding was at St. Jude Catholic Church and the reception was held at the Indiana State Museum. We loved the energy of all of their friends, it made it so much fun. We tried something new on this to see how it would work. We gave Dan’s brother Bob one of our small cameras to document some of the behind the scenes things. You will see a small excerpt of the footage in this highlight. The “un-censored video was so funny”. We will definitely do this again. That camera is now affectionately referred to as the “Bob Cam”. Dan and Dani will get a full chapter with just that footage.

We enjoyed working with one of our favorites and good friends Amanda and Kyle Wilcher with Amanda Wilcher Photgraphers. They captured some amazing images that day.

Thanks to Dan and Dani, it was an adventure :)

Whitney and Randi – A Year in Review

It’s been a little over a year since Whitney and I became husband and wife and it has been the greatest year yet. Looking back on our first year as a married couple has brought back so many memories. Since then we have made some changes in careers and many changes to our house in Fishers. I have decided to spring into the wedding industry and coordinate weddings as well as work part time as a teacher. Whitney has made many updates to the inside of our home including an outdoor oasis. We enjoy many things together and especially playing with our pups Lucy and Lacy. This first year as newlyweds has been a blast and we couldn’t have asked for more! It has flown by and it reminds us to take time to look back and remember all those moments in life that go by so quickly.

As we approached our first year anniversary, we also knew how much fun it would be to look back at our wedding film produced by John and Jennifer of Northernlight Filmworks. It brought back even more great memories of our wedding day. We just love bringing it out every now and again to remind ourselves of what a great day it was. Having them capture every moment with family and friends was the best thing we could have decided to do. We always know we will have this film to watch for years to come! We can’t thank John and Jennifer enough for the amazing work they put together for us!

This is one memorable couple. We enjoyed getting to know Jenny and Doug and really understanding the closeness that they share. This wedding reminded us of the importance of family and this was quite evident for each side of their respective families. The wedding ceremony was absolutely beautiful. The intro music to this video is actually from the choir that sang at the church. There is quite a back story to how they got the choir to sing for their wedding, which made it all that more important to both Doug and Jenny. We were honored to be able to capture this important time in their lives. And thank you Doug and Jenny for the gift certificate to Bub’s! We are hooked!

We enjoyed filming this wedding with photographer Megan Grandi, who does amazing work. Take some time and look at the images from the wedding HERE

This was a wedding we filmed in Carmel, IN. We really enjoyed shooting this one. While I was shooting I kept thinking that Jamie reminded me of someone and it wasn’t until I was outside with her getting some shots and it hit me that she had a striking resemblance to Eva Longoria. We worked with Joni Streit Photography and had such a great time working with her.

This was a wedding we filmed in Indianapolis, IN. The wedding was at Geist Christian Church. The ceremony was beautiful and it was very apparent that Afton and her Father have a great Father / Daughter relationship. The anticipation of walking down the aisle with his daughter, made us wonder what was going through his mind. Afton and Joe have quite a story of how they met and the romance involved a long distance relationship. We believe that every single wedding has a distinct story and personality and this wedding involved a story of fate and faith. Just goes to show you that if you want to make a long distance relationship, it certainly can be done, but it takes work. But Joe and Afton remind us that if you love someone, it is work that is well worth the effort.

The reception was held at the Skyline Club, which is the same location where Joe proposed to Afton. We worked with Ardent Stills Photography.

Thanks Afton and Joe!
