Some of our work recently appeared on IndyStyle TV on WISH TV 8 and this video is the full HD version of what appeared.

This is another fashion shoot we did with Polina Osherov and Stylist Nikki Sutton. These types of shoots really help expand my creative vision and to see different ways to compose a shot and to give me an opportunity to play with light a bit. It’s also inspiring to see how this team of creatives work together. It was fun to see a conceptual project progress from an idea to the final product. There is so much time involved in pulling a high caliber shoot like this off. There is an immense amount of time involved in working the logistics out, including the shoot location and obtaining permission to lining up the models, wardrobe, makeup, hair stylist and even some set construction.

This was a hot sticky day inside this early 1920′s manufacturing building but nobody complained and it resulted in some amazing work by Polina. Models Vika and Tyrie did an amazing job even in the heat.

This is really a huge team effort and a team that has chemistry. I always say that a creative team is like 2 people dancing and the good dancers know the next step and if there is a mis-step the partner knows how to compensate. It’s no different with a fashion assignment like this. This team has it going on and they have the creative chemistry to pull it off.

I have been a fan of Polina Osherov for a few years, which is when I came across her work. There is something magical about her work and after spending some time with her team, it’s a combination of talents. But Polina has a connection with the talent that they seem to understand and from the poses to the color grading, it comes out as an Osherov piece. I was impressed with stylist Nikki Sutton and her very direct way of getting things done but in a way that is both collaborative and efficient. Irina Green works her magic with hair styling and on this particular day, she was working with hair hats, which I never knew existed until this shoot. Kiralee Hubbard of EyeMax, who I have worked with before and she always seems to transform her subject into something that enhances their own natural beauty.

I always enjoy “picking the brain” of other artists and to find a little about what makes them tick and where they pull inspiration from. What I did notice is that this team has fun when they work together and that radiates to the talent, which in turn makes for a productive shoot.

Polina Osherov – Fashion Shoot

Osherov shoot2

This was a shot I took while filming a high fashion photo shoot with Fashion Photographer Polina Osherov.  I have been a long time fan of her work and was excited that she asked me to be a part of this shoot.  I am always looking for ways to keep my creativity alive and to find inspiration in many things.  I love fashion photography because it challenges you to communicate a message to the viewer in one single frame.  What I like about this image is that it is an in between shot where no direction was being given.   I love black and white photos because it is simple and was a contrast to the dramatic look of the models.

We will be producing a video to explore where Polina and her team get their inspiration and how they approach each concept or project.  There is so much I can learn from these types of shoots in terms of lighting and direction and it is valuable in applying to cinematography.  Cinematography is all about framing, composition, lighting and movement and all of these elements were experimented with during this shoot.  I talked a little with Polina, who’s father was a Cinematographer in Russia.  I would love to sit down with him some time and pick his brain.  I’m sure he has some great stories.
